EU 2008 Balance: an example of efficient communication

European Union’s Balance for 2008 is around 130 Euro Billions and more of the 40% of it is assigned to sustainable development. Competitiveness and Cohesion are the two policies that refer to it. EU’s GD Financial Programming and Budget has published a two pages Budget synthesis that furnishes all essential data to know about the allocation of Funds among the Commission policies (download the document). The bulk (44%) is assigned to sustainable development, and under this title are grouped the following policies:

Competitiveness: Education and training, Research, Competitiveness and Innovation, Transport and Energy networks, Sociopolitical agenda
Cohesion: Convergence, Regional competitiveness and Employment, Territorial cooperation

High increase is given to funds for networks, over 92.5%, that points out the critical state of energy and communications. Reductions were done (for 5.1%) on funds for Regional competitiveness and Employment, due to the reduction of the assignments to regions progressively integrating and that were admitted into Objective 1 in the 2000-2006 period.
As 2008 is the Intercultural Dialogue European year, the EU has assigned 7 Euro Millions to encourage dialogue, especially for schools and workplaces.
